I have an old Facebook page that has been left abandoned for a while now, and I thought it would make an interesting case study to see if I can bring it back to life.
A little about the page:
Niche: Gardening
Audience: USA
Likes:14700
So I have a decent audience to start with; the problem is they won’t be particularly engaged – so I should expect my first few posts to perform poorly.
The first thing I do I jump into Buffer and re-schedule some of the older posts I had on this page.
This will help get the ball rolling again with very little effort from myself.
Follow along with this case study and all my others by joining my email list!
Now I need to look at making some fresh content for this page. I have a few days of content scheduled from my old posts but after that – nothing.
So I opened up Strevio and started analysing the competition.
I want to see what is working for them, and once I have this information, I will use it to create my content.
Now let’s be clear, I am not talking about ripping them off and stealing their content. Instead, I take the ideas that are working, put my own spin on it, and make 100% unique content.
Don’t go stealing, it’s shady behaviour, and while it may work well at first – you will get found out in the long run. If you can’t sit down and write some articles yourself, you are in the wrong game or need very deep pockets.
While I was writing the new content, the old stuff was up and getting clicks. So let’s have a look at how it did.
So here are the results from the first two days, a Saturday and Sunday.
As you can see, it was nothing special. But it is getting clicks – and that is very encouraging.
When you have a dead page, a slow start is to be expected; why would Facebook suddenly start pushing your content when you abandoned it for however long?
But the signs are good; people are clicking, but more importantly, reading. Look at that average time on page – most of these articles are 1000-2000 words, so many people are reading the entire thing – great news!
Safe in the knowledge that the page still gets viewers and hasn’t been blacklisted or anything like that, I really knuckled down and got into the content swing.
This is one thing I am really good at and is what I give a lot of my online success to. When needed, I can sit behind the keyboard and type.
Sometimes you have to put the work in, no ifs – no buts.
So I said all of this back in July 23, did I continue the hard work and get a regular posting schedule going to this page? Nope.
I got busy and it fell to the bottom of the pile, but I'm back now in 2024 and ready to get this up and running once and for all.
I started by setting up a brand new like campaign with 5 different ads under it. This should get new likes coming in at a good pace, which will help get the engagement spiking again.
A fresh audience is always going to be more engaged than an older one. So, by adding some new likes to my page, I should be able to get things moving in the right direction.
So, now to get some content on this page and get the traffic flowing!
I have been posting every now and again to this page so I feel confident in upping the volume, I am going up to ten posts a day now!
If your page is brand new then don't do this! Start with one or two posts a day and slowly up the volume.
For this case study, I am going to be testing a new scheduling tool - Socianomials. Let's see how I get on.
To the right you can see my planned schedule, now its time to fill it up!
